Student of the Year Award - 07/03/2019

At TexMed 1998, TMA-MSS established the Outstanding Student on the Year award.  This award is given annually to the Texas Medical Student exemplifying outstanding service to the Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section. Any medical student (except current TMA-MSS Executive Council members) is eligible to receive this award.


UTHealth Student Named TMA Student of Year - 05/20/2019

Michael Bagg, a third-year medical student at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), received the Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section (TMA-MSS) Student of the Year Award. The medical student received the award today at TexMed, TMA’s annual conference, in Dallas.

Percentage of Women in Texas Med Schools Hits Record High - 03/05/2019

The 2018 freshman class at Texas medical schools contains a record high percentage of women, according to data compiled by the Texas Medical Association. The proportion of female first-year enrollments in Texas rose to 52.3 percent, up from 50.1 percent in 2017, and edging out the previous record of 51.4 percent hit in 2003.

Student Representatives and Alternate Representatives to TMA Boards, Councils, and Committees - 12/18/2018

Medical student members are provided the opportunity to apply for a one-year term as a representative or alternate representatives on association boards, councils, and committees. Student members of TMA- BCCs help create policy while offering networking and leadership opportunities. Appointments are made annually. Applications are due by April 15.


Higher Education Board OKs New Medical Schools in Fort Worth and Houston - 10/26/2018

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board today approved the joint Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine, expected to open in 2019. The board also OK'd the University of Houston's proposed allopathic school for a planned 2020 opening.
