Finding and Maintaining Ideal Volunteers
The Hard Hats for Little Heads bicycle helmet giveaway program helps kids stay active and safe. TMA provides a generous match when you purchase helmets to properly fit on kids – plus all you need for a winning event. And some physicians can receive 50 helmets at no cost, courtesy of their specialty society and TMA. Since 1994, TMA has given more than 375,000 helmets to Texas children.
The Texas BookShare program provides books for children and families in underserved areas to promote literacy and provide age-appropriate information about living a healthy lifestyle. Books, in English and Spanish, are available for a variety of age groups. The first time you participate is free, with a matching contribution required in subsequent years. Since 2021, more than 5,000 Texas children have received a book to call their own.
Walk With a Doc Texas is part of a national grassroots movement that encourages physical activity to reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. Physician and medical student walk leaders invite their patients and community to join them to walk to improve their health and well-being. Program start-up is free for TMA members.
Vaccines Defend What Matters is TMA’s integrated, multimedia public health education and advocacy effort to overcome vaccine hesitancy and increase vaccination rates in Texas. Ready-made printed, video, and social media materials are available to help patients make informed decisions, along with grants to fund vaccination education and outreach events.
Defend What Matters
Turn It Off Today calls attention to the correlation between excessive screen time and poor emotional and physical well-being. The program provides materials to encourage people – especially children and adolescents – to replace time spent staring at their screens with healthy activities like “green time” outside or face-to-face interaction.
