The Texas Medical Association House of Delegates policymaking body reelected Dallas internist and palliative care physician Mark A. Casanova, MD, vice speaker of the TMA house during TMA’s TexMed conference in April 2026. The reelection renews his seat on the TMA Board of Trustees governing body.
“From the beginning of my career through my current leadership in TMA, I have engaged in advocacy and institutional involvement for the betterment of our patients and each other (as physicians),” said Dr. Casanova, pledging his commitment to serve organized medicine.
Dr. Casanova has been a TMA member for 30 years and has held many leadership positions. He was a member of TMA’s Council on Legislation and chair of the TMA councils on Health Service Organizations and Constitution and Bylaws. He has served as a delegate to the TMA house for more than 20 years, and has held the office of delegation co-chair since 2017. He is also a graduate of the TMA Leadership College.
Dr. Casanova was a member of TMA’s COVID-19 Task Force during the height of the pandemic. The task force provided information to physicians and the public about the virus when it was rapidly spreading. He also helped found the North Texas Medical Society Coalition, a five-county coalition focused on COVID-19 public education.
He is a former president and board chair of the Dallas County Medical Society, and he is a delegate with the Texas Delegation to the American Medical Association.
He also is a member of several North Texas health care committees, including the North Texas Mass Critical Care Task Force.
