The Texas Medical Association Board of Trustees reelected Tony R. Aventa, MD, as board secretary during TexMed 2026 in Corpus Christi, after the TMA House of Delegates reelected him to the board. TMA first placed Dr. Aventa on the board of Trustees in 2023.
Dr. Aventa’s priorities for his tenure on the board include “protecting the bedrock of Texas’ medical liability reform, protecting the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship, supporting patients’ health care choices, ensuring patients’ access to safe and timely treatments, and supporting the ability of all physicians to practice in the manner they choose, whether as an employed physician or a practice owner.”
Having practiced primary care for more than two decades, Dr. Aventa previously co-chaired TMA’s Ad Hoc Committee on Independent Physician Practice. He also chaired the Travis County Medical Society Delegation to the TMA House of Delegates and is a Patron level member of TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee.
“I’ve spent countless hours advocating for patients and physicians both at TMA and at the state Capitol during legislative sessions,” Dr. Aventa said. He testified in several legislative hearings in 2023 and attended many TMA First Tuesdays at the Capitol advocacy events, including during the 2025 session of the Texas Legislature.
In addition to having chaired his county society delegation, he has served as the Travis County Medical Society president and chair of its Medical Legislation Committee, among other leadership roles.
