TMA Grant to Help San Antonians Fight Flu - 02/18/2020

Underserved patients at various San Antonio clinics will receive influenza vaccines thanks to a grant from the Texas Medical Association’s (TMA’s) Be Wise — ImmunizeSM program. TMA recently awarded the TMA Chapter at UT Health San Antonio’s Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine the funds to provide 150 free flu shots for patients at five student-run clinics. Vaccines will be given weekly through the end of January.

Be Like This Belton Clinic – Boost Flu Shots in Your Community - 02/07/2020

A Belton health clinic that serves uninsured Bell County residents more than doubled the number of flu shots given last year thanks to a Local Impact Grant provided through the Texas Medical Association’s Be Wise – ImmunizeSM program. The clinic was able to give 160 adults flu shots with the grant funding, compared with 70 given during the 2018-19 flu season.


El Paso Emergency Community Honored for Shooting Response - 02/06/2020

The president of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) will honor the many physicians, hospital caregivers, emergency medical technicians, and others who responded to the tragic El Paso Walmart shooting on Aug. 3, 2019. A gunman shot and killed 22 people and injured 24 others, many of whom received care in area hospitals. TMA President David C. Fleeger, MD, will present a TMA President’s Award to members of El Paso’s emergency medicine community at a brief ceremony.

McGovern Champion of Health Awards. TMAF presented the awards to the honorees on Saturday at the TMA Winter Conference, in Austin.


TMA Honors Dallas Physician With Public Health Lifetime Achievement Award - 01/27/2020

The Texas Medical Association (TMA) presented its inaugural Laurance N. Nickey, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award to Robert W. Haley, MD, director of the Division of Epidemiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and a TMA physician leader.
