The Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees has chosen Houston neurologist Kimberly E. Monday, MD, to chair the board in 2025-26.

“I am honored to be selected by my peers to lead our TMA Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Monday. “We are in a transformational time in health care, and I look forward to serving the needs of all members.”

TMA reelected her to a second term on TMA’s governing body in May 2023. Dr. Monday first joined the board in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Physicians are in the best position to determine what health care services people and communities need, who should provide those services, and in what context,” she said.

As a board member, Dr. Monday seeks to “promote policies and programs that contribute to physician success, whether that be in rural private practice or as an urban employed physician.” She owned a single specialty private practice, Houston Neurological Institute, for twenty years. She now serves as vice chair for operations at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston department of neurology.

Dr. Monday is past president of the Harris County Medical Society. She also chaired the Harris Health Care System Board of Trustees, and serves on the Memorial Hermann Physician Network Board of Directors.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Monday has strived to improve patient care and protect the patient-physician relationship. “Patients are best served when physicians are the captain of the health care team,” she said. She hopes organized medicine can reverse the trend of influence on medical care by “external nonphysician forces – politicians, hospital executives, and insurance payers – toward the recognition and value of physician judgement and leadership.”

An active TMA member since 1997, Dr. Monday co-chaired the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force, and has been a member of the Educational Scholarship and Loan Committee. She served on the TMA councils on legislation and socioeconomics as well as the Prior Authorization Task Force and maintenance-of-certification legislative effort.

“Practicing medicine is an honor, privilege, and the most rewarding of all professions,” Dr. Monday said.
