More COVID-19 Vaccines Available For Your Practice: Order Now
By Amy Lynn Sorrel

Texas’ COVID-19 vaccine supplies are well stocked, and physician practices are likely to see more allocations as the state shifts its vaccination efforts from large, mass vaccination sites “to those where Texans routinely receive medical care,” the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) announced.

DSHS urges physician practices to place their vaccine orders for next week in the state Vaccine Allocation and Ordering System by 5 pm (CT) on Tuesday, May 4

If you already requested a COVID-19 vaccine supply and didn’t receive it, state officials say there is now enough supply to fill those requests and recommend you place your order again

DSHS reports an excess of about 280,000 vaccine doses available to Texas practices and other vaccine administrators for the next week, and the agency will order the state’s full allotment.

In the following weeks, however, DSHS says it will only place orders matching the amounts that vaccine administrators request, versus drawing down the state’s full allotment. Vaccines still will be available through weekly ordering and shipped directly to your practice.

“I encourage you to consider what you can do to make one more big push to quickly vaccinate those who are willing. This is our path out of the pandemic and back to normal lives,” DSHS Commissioner John Hellerstedt, MD, said.
