As you know, virtual and in-person classes are under way or will soon start in schools across Texas, so it’s important that students be up to date with vaccinations.
To help you spread the word to families who might have missed or avoided vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Medical Association’s Be Wise – ImmunizeSM program and the Texas Pediatric Society have created four prewritten letters to the editor you can send to your local newspaper.
You also can write your own letter or customize the prewritten letters, especially if you have local statistics or stories to include. Be sure to check word limits for the newspaper, which usually are around 150 words for a letter to the editor.
If you have a personal relationship with a newspaper editor, you might want to ask if you can submit a longer commentary. These tips for writing a letter to the editor provide additional information.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month, so this is the perfect time to send one of the letters.
