Award To Recognize Outstanding Texas IMGs

Do you know any physicians who graduated from medical school outside of the United States and have provided outstanding service within their community?

Nominate them for the Texas Medical Association International Medical Graduate (IMG) Section’s inaugural IMG Section Outstanding Physician Award.

IMG physicians are an important part of the physician workforce in Texas. In fact, one in four U.S. physicians are graduates of medical schools outside the United States.

Because of programs like the federal Conrad 30 Waiver program, which matches IMGs to communities in great need of physicians’ services, access to care in underserved Texas communities has improved.

The IMG Section Outstanding Physician Award recognizes IMG physicians who have taken steps beyond their regular workday to improve the health of their community. Examples include volunteering to provide medical services in a charitable or not-for-profit clinic, routinely offering health screenings to residents in need, or serving on a school health advisory committee.

“The IMG Section is pleased to honor our physicians for their exemplary contributions to the field of medicine and their communities,” section Chair Sejal S. Mehta, MD (pictured at left), said.

To nominate an outstanding IMG physician, fill out and return the application by Jan. 20 to IMG Section staff Karen Kollar.
