When you think about your future as a physician, do you see yourself not only treating patients, but also shaping state and national health policy or being involved in medical leadership?
If you answered yes, get started on that future by serving on the Texas Medical Association Medical Student Section (MSS) Executive Council, which directs the activities of the section at the state level.
How, you ask?
Start by applying for one of the open positions listed below. Then make plans to attend the Medical Student Section business meeting during TexMed 2020 in Fort Worth the first weekend in May.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Open positions are: chair, vice chair, reporter, American Medical Association delegate co-leaders (two positions), and TMA delegate co-leaders (two positions).
- Elections will be held during the MSS Business Meeting scheduled for 1 to 3:30 pm May 1 at TexMed 2020.
- To apply for a position on the MSS Executive Council for the 2018-2019 term, submit a letter of intent and your CV to your section coordinator.
But that’s not all. You also have the opportunity to be appointed to serve a one-year term on a TMA board, council, or committee.
If you want to know which group is right for you, check out the TMA Governance Structure and apply online.
But wait, there’s more. If you’re a fourth-year student who has actively participated in organized medicine at the local, county, or state level, apply for the TMA-MSS Leadership Honor Society.
The deadline to apply for all positions, including the Leadership Honor Society, is April 15.
