TMA Reelects Waco Physician House Speaker

Holland_190x190 DSC9383Waco otolaryngologist Bradford W. Holland, MD, was reelected speaker of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. Members reelected him on Saturday during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference, held in Fort Worth this year.

The House of Delegates elects TMA officers and representatives to the American Medical Association, and debates and determines TMA policies.

“It is truly an honor to be reelected to serve as speaker of the house for the greatest state medical association in the country.” Dr. Holland said. “Representing my physician colleagues in this way is a charge I take seriously, and with great enthusiasm.”

Dr. Holland was first elected speaker in 2021 and has been reelected twice since then. Reflecting on his biggest accomplishment as speaker in the past year, he says it’s continuing the house’s use of technology in a way that benefits members. “In the post-COVID-19 era, our success at merging the technological advances accelerated during COVID-19 with the pressures of simply getting people to show up and attend meetings is the greatest challenge, and one which we have addressed very well,” he said.

Dr. Holland believes physicians should fight against forces that attack and seek to weaken the practice of medicine. “It is my goal that we continue to have a unified voice of medicine through the House of Delegates,” he said, “and that we concentrate on those policy reforms we all agree are desperately needed in order to help our patients and profession.”

The physician has held multiple TMA leadership positions, including vice speaker of the house; Council on Legislation member; and chair of TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee. He has been an active TMA member for 24 years.

He also is a member of the McLennan County Medical Society, of which was president.

Dr. Holland is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and has practiced as an ear, nose, and throat specialist for more than two decades. He is active in his specialty society, the Texas Association of Otolaryngology, having served as president and in other roles there. He also is a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians. Dr. Holland is an adjunct faculty member in Baylor University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Dr. Holland is a graduate of UT Southwestern Medical School. His wife, Amanda Holland, is director of Baylor University’s Department of Advising for Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences, and the couple has four children attending high school and college.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 57,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
