The section’s charge is stated in the TMA Bylaws:
3.252 LGBTQ Health Section. The House of Delegates shall have a section named the LGBTQ Health Section. The section will address important issues of interest to LGBTQ medical students, resident and fellows, and physicians. Any TMA physician member may become a member of the section. The section shall have the authority to elect one voting delegate to serve in the House of Delegates. The section shall elect an alternate delegate who may serve as provided in 3.32. The section will be directed by an elected governing council and governed by operating procedures approved by the House of Delegates. The operating procedures shall provide the purposes, organization, and procedures of the LGBTQ Health Section. The LGBTQ Health Section shall (1) study and advance the scientific basis for the care of LGBTQ patients; (2) develop policy and resources on LGBTQ health and advance the association as a leader in providing physicians with evidence-based scientific information on the care of LGBTQ patients; (3) address the unique issues in practice management, billing, and maintaining medical records in the care of LBGTQ patients; and (4) communicate association policy and expertise on LGBTQ health.
