TMA-MSS Chapter Update: Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine

The TMA Medical Student Section (MSS) chapter at the University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) has jumped into community outreach over the past year.

  • The chapter started Fort Worth’s first Walk With a Future Doc chapter. With support from TMA grant funding, TCOM is partnering with LVTRise and Tarrant Area Food Bank to hold walks with the community on the second Saturday of every month and provide free health screenings at each event.
  • Our chapter had the opportunity to hear from Tarrant County’s deputy local health authority, Kenton Murthy, DO, on COVID-19 vaccination in Texas.
  • We partnered with the TCU and UNTHSC School of Medicine TMA-MSS chapter to host a virtual event by American Medical Association President Susan Bailey, MD.
  • We held a resolution workshop to help increase our members’ involvement in the MSS resolution process.

The dedication of our members and MSS leaders have made these events possible. We are also grateful for the support of the Tarrant County Medical Society!

In the upcoming year, our chapter hopes to increase its presence in the community and will be partnering with fellow Dallas-Fort Worth-area MSS chapters to encourage our members to become more active in organized medicine and the resolution process.
