For 60 years, The Physicians Benevolent Fund has helped medical family members in need. The late May Owen, MD, a Fort Worth pathologist and past TMA president, established the fund in 1961 with a $2,500 donation to assist destitute doctors and their families.
The new PBF Wellness Fund provides financial assistance to licensed Texas physicians who cannot afford short-term treatment for wellness issues potentially affecting their ability to safely practice medicine. Assistance may also be available for household expenses for the family while the physician is receiving treatment.
TMA's Physician Health and Wellness program provides educational resources to encourage health and well-being for physicians, residents, and medical students.
The annual Physician Health and Wellness Exchange is a meeting of open discussion, educational programming, and a poster session with cash prizes. The next PHW Exchange will be held in 2021.
