The Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees elected Denton obstetrician-gynecologist Joseph S. Valenti, MD, as vice chair in April 2026. He first joined the board in 2018, and members of TMA's House of Delegates policymaking body reelected him twice.

“It’s both an honor and privilege to serve Texas physicians and patients in this role,” said Dr. Valenti. “My first love is caring for patients, but my next love – besides my family – is advocacy to improve the care of patients and the standing of Texas physicians.”

He has served multiple terms on the association’s governing body, including as chair.

“We are [our patients’] stewards, and they are our partners, and we can succeed only if we are always vigilant of that fact,” he said.

Dr. Valenti served in several TMA leadership positions over his 28 years of membership in addition to board service. He has chaired three TMA bodies: the Council on Socioeconomics, the Council on Constitution and Bylaws, and the Committee on Maternal and Perinatal Health. In his early years as a TMA member, he represented the Medical Student, Resident and Fellow, and Young Physician sections as a delegate in TMA’s House of Delegates policymaking body.

Outside of TMA, Dr. Valenti served on the American Medical Association Resident and Fellow Section Governing Council, and as president of the Denton County Medical Society. He continues to serve in the TMA house, and on the boards of the Texas Medical Liability Trust and The Physicians Foundation.

Dr. Valenti founded the Caring for Women medical practice in Denton, where he has served patients for more than two decades. He was also chief of staff of North Texas Hospital, a physician-owned facility.

“Required of us is leadership, dedication, honesty, and an unwavering belief that we can never give up the ability to do what is in the patient’s and the physician’s best interest.”
