Attendees of TMA’s TexMed 2026 in Corpus Christi will have the opportunity to donate blood on site during the conference on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18.
The blood drive is co-hosted by TMA’s Committee on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma, the Subcommittee on Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation, and the Nueces County Medical Society, and is coordinated by the Coastal Bend Blood Center.
Donors will be able to direct their donation to a prehospital whole blood program supporting emergency care through the Coastal Bend Blood Center’s EMS team and HALO-Flight team, a nonprofit air ambulance program. The blood donation center will collect and supply whole blood specifically for use in these critical prehospital settings.
In addition:
- Antigen testing will be offered at no cost to previously pregnant donors who wish to contribute to the whole blood program.
- HLA (human leukocyte antigen) testing is also available free of charge. If interested in being tested, please notify Kathryn Clarke in advance in order to ensure the appropriate forms and additional sample tubes are available at the drive.
To ensure eligibility, regular donors are encouraged to schedule their last donation at least 56 days before the event. Contact Ms. Clarke with any questions.
