If you found out your residency destination during the recent Match Day but now find yourself scrambling to gather the funds to get there, the Texas Medical Association is here to help you finance the next leg of your medical education.

TMA’s loan program offers up to $6,000 at a fixed 4.4% interest rate for medical students and resident physicians. To help cover the cost of relocation for residency training, loans are available to medical students currently enrolled in a Texas medical school who will move on to residency at a Texas or out-of-state program.

One borrower remarked that “by providing a viable option for financing residency relocation and expenses,” TMA helped ease his financial worries. “The process was fast, easy, and convenient. Paying for residency can be stressful, and that was alleviated though the TMA.”

TMA’s loan program paves the way for the future and supports TMA’s mission, says, Jayesh Shah, MD, chair of TMA's Educational Scholarship and Loan Committee and a member of the TMA Board of Trustees. Beginning in medical school and continuing throughout residency training, TMA helps future physicians reach their career goals as they prepare to “improve the health of all Texans.”

TMA is currently accepting loan applications and will disburse funds within a few weeks of submission. Please submit your loan application by April 30 to ensure disbursement during the current school year (consult your financial aid offer to confirm eligibility). If you have questions, email TMA
