New FAQ Offers Information on Virtual Credit Card Payments

Federal authorities are clarifying the legality of health plans paying claims through virtual credit cards, which typically result in fees for practices.  

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released an FAQ with information on virtual credit card transactions in relation to HIPAA requirements. The new document also clarifies that if a practice requests that insurers send payment through an automated clearing house, or ACH, transaction – instead of a virtual credit card – health plans must comply with that request.
