 May 2, 2022

Cynthia Jumper, MD, a Lubbock physician specializing for 28 years in internal medicine and pulmonary diseases, was reelected to the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Board of Trustees governing body. TMA’s House of Delegates policymaking body elected Dr. Jumper during TexMed, the association’s annual conference, held this year in Houston.

C.Jumper_190“I am grateful the House of Delegates has trusted my service for the past three years as a member of the Board of Trustees, and I’m honored to be reelected to serve another three years with this distinguished organization,” said Dr. Jumper.

“My goals are to carry out the priorities set by the House of Delegates and to truly provide a voice for the members of the TMA,” she said. “Recent priorities have included protecting the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship, providing resources needed to maintain a medical practice during COVID-19, and forcing an even playing field on out-of-network billing,” said Dr. Jumper, referring to TMA’s recent victory in federal district court over rules implementing the new federal No Surprises Act. (The federal agencies are appealing this ruling in a United States District Court.)

Dr. Jumper joined TMA as a medical student in 1984. Physicians first elected her to the TMA Board of Trustees in 2019. In between, Dr. Jumper joined and later chaired the TMA Council on Medical Education, and served on TMA’s councils on Legislation and Socioeconomics. She is a member of TMA’s new Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force, and is an executive board member of TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee.

Dr. Jumper also is active on the national level, serving as a Texas delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA), and on the AMA Council on Medical Education.

As a community caregiver and health care educator, Dr. Jumper supervises medical students at local flu clinics and health fairs, volunteers at Lubbock-area medical clinics serving homeless patients, and participates in global health care electives in Nicaragua.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 56,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
