CME: Learn More About Teen Health Care and Confidentiality

The Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is offering a three-part webinar series on concepts surrounding legal consent to caring for minors in Texas and best practices with respect to confidentiality.

The Consent & Confidentiality Series is for clinicians, social workers, and other youth-serving professionals. The three segments of the series will be held on consecutive Wednesdays in August, each with a different focus:

  • August 4, 10-11 am: Consent to Health Care for Minors: Understanding Texas Law. Presenters: Jennifer Biundo, MPAff, director of policy and data for the Texas Campaign; Austin family physician Celia Neavel, MD, People’s Community Clinic.
  • August 11, 10-11 am: Protecting Confidentiality for Teens Within EHRs. Presenters: Houston pediatrician Rebecca Beyda, MD, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth; Dallas pediatrician M. Brett Cooper, MD, UT Southwestern Medical Center.
  • August 18, 10-11 am: Clinical Best Practices in Confidentiality for Adolescent Patients. Presenters: Pflugerville pediatrician Chinwe Efuribe, MD, adolescent health advocate; Sydnee Lucas, CPN, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston; Marshall Preddy, JD, Lone Star Circle of Care; Kacie Vazquez, youth advocate.

Registration for each webinar is $25, but it is free for medical, nursing, and social work students using registration code CCSTUDENT. Scholarships and continuing education in multiple disciplines, including CME, are available for the webinars. The Texas Medical Association and TMA Foundation are sponsoring student scholarships for the event.
