Twelve San Antonio Physicians Start New Terms in TMA Leadership Positions

Twelve San Antonio physicians have begun new terms of service in Texas Medical Association (TMA) leadership positions.

TMA leaders elect or appoint TMA physicians and medical students to one of TMA’s 25 boards, councils, and committees. They are responsible for studying health care-related issues and making recommendations on important health care policy affecting Texas patients and their physicians.

All of these physicians are members of the Bexar County Medical Society.

Michael A. Battista, MD, a neonatologist-perinatologist in practice for 31 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Legislation.

Susan Portnoy Epner, MD, a neurologist in practice for 22 years; appointed as a consultant to TMA’s Council on Health Care Quality.

Vincent P. Fonseca, MD, a public health and general preventive medicine specialist in practice for 29 years; reappointed as a consultant to TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health.

Alice K. Gong, MD, a neonatologist-perinatologist in practice for 36 years; reappointed as a consultant to TMA’s Council on Science and Public Health.

Monica I-Chia Lee, MD, an emergency physician in practice for five years; reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma.

Charles J. Lerner, MD, an epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist in practice for 50 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Infectious Diseases.

Jesse Moss Jr., MD, an otolaryngologist in practice for 35 years; reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Physician Distribution and Health Care Access.

Gerardo Ortega, MD, a vascular surgeon in practice for 41 years; elected to TMA’s Council on Constitution and Bylaws.

Jan Ellen Evans Patterson, MD, an infectious disease specialist in practice for 33 years; elected to the TMA Council on Science and Public Health.

Ezequiel “Zeke” Silva III, MD, a diagnostic radiologist in practice for 20 years; elected to TMA’s Council on Legislation.

Rajeev Suri, MD, a radiologist in practice for 15 years; reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Continuing Education.

Nichole J. Van de Putte, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist in practice for nine years; reappointed to TMA’s Committee on Reproductive, Women’s, and Perinatal Health.
