100 Reasons to Walk (With a Doc, Too)

There are many reasons to walk, including disease prevention and weight loss. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, one reason rose to the top – mental health.

Walking is a brain boost, lowers risk of depression, and improves mood. And if you pair walking with a group, like Walk With a Doc, you benefit from social connection.

The Texas Medical Association collaborates with Walk With a Doc to host walks all over Texas. TMA members pay no start-up costs and have all the benefits of bringing this program to their community.

As one participant recently put it: “It never dawned on me that my depression was not only linked to the pandemic, but so closely linked to lack of exercise.”

And Walk With a Doc encourages more than just exercise. It promotes health education, social connection, and spending time outdoors in nature. And those are not the only reasons to walk. Here are 100 more reasons to walk.

To join a walk in your area, visit the Walk With a Doc website. For more information on starting a walk in your community, contact Debra Heater at (512) 370-1390 or Debra Heater.
