TMA Expands Health Promotion Impact with 2018 Grants

This year TMA will have some new tools to improve the health of all Texans thanks to more than $572,000 in grants from TMA Foundation.

In the fight against cancer, TMA will launch a new HPV Social Media Campaign, which aims to increase awareness of the importance of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among older teens/young adults in small- to medium-sized college town(s) with lower than-average HPV vaccination rates. The campaign supports the public education component of TMA’s HPV Working Group and TMA’s Council on Health Promotion.

TMAF grants also will enable Walk with a Doc Texas to incorporate new educational efforts on diabetes and smoking cessation. The grants were approved at the TMAF fall board of trustees meeting.

TMA’s signature community outreach programs Hard Hats for Little Heads and Be Wise — Immunize also received funding, as well as the TMA Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Program, the expanded TMA Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching and University of Health.
