Arindam
Sarkar, MD, a physician in residency has joined the Texas Medical Association
Foundation (TMAF) Board of Trustees. He begins his three-year term at TMA Fall
Conference this week, after being selected in May to serve.
TMAF,
the philanthropic arm of TMA, raises funds to support the public health,
quality of care, and science priority initiatives of the association and the
family of medicine. TMAF raises funds and connects medicine, business, and
community groups that carry out these programs at the local and state levels.
Dr.
Sarkar practices family medicine as a resident physician at Baylor College of
Medicine in Houston. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Rice
University and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He also
served as an operations consultant for the Veterans Health Administration.
Dr.
Sarkar joins the TMAF board of TMA physician members, TMA Alliance members (TMA
physicians and spouses who work on TMA volunteer initiatives such as the
outreach programs to improve health), and community leaders. Each member serves
a three-year term and may be reappointed to serve two additional terms.
Some
of the better-known programs TMAF supports include TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads, Walk
With a Doc Texas, Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Program, and Ernest
and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching. The foundation also funds local health
initiatives through community grants.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 50,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans. TMA Foundation raises funds to support the population health, quality of care and science priority initiatives of TMA and the Family of Medicine.
