2020 MIPS Scores, Feedback Now Available

Feedback and final scores for the 2020 performance year of Medicare’s Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) are finally available online. And if you were one of last year’s MIPS participants, the Texas Medical Association urges you to check your score soon – because if you find an error that could affect your 2022 MIPS payment, you have only until Oct. 1 to request a review.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the release of the 2020 results along with accompanying resources to help participating physicians understand their scores, feedback, and “payment adjustments” (incentive payment, payment penalty, or no change), which will be meted out next year.

To access your final score, performance feedback, and payment adjustment, log in to the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website using your HCQIS Access Roles and Profile (HARP) system credentials, the same credentials you used to submit your 2020 MIPS data. If you don’t have a HARP account, refer to the QPP Access User Guide ZIP file for the Register for a HARP Account and Connect to an Organization documents.

Physicians who participated in QPP through its other track, an alternative payment model, can also access performance feedback through the website using their HARP account.

If you believe you’ve found an error in your scoring – such as data being submitted under the wrong National Provider Identifier, or performance categories not properly reweighted for extreme and uncontrollable circumstances – you can request a “targeted review” from CMS. To do so, log in to the QPP website and refer to the QPP Access User Guide for further steps.

Once again, note that Oct. 1 is the deadline to request a targeted review.

Direct questions to the QPP at (866) 288-8292 or by email. CMS says nonpeak hours for calling are before 9 am CT and after 1 pm CT. The hearing impaired can dial 711 to be connected to a Telecommunications Relay Service assistant.

Participants in QPP through Medicare Shared Savings Program accountable care organizations (ACOs) can create a HARP account in the ACO Management System and should contact their ACO to find out how to obtain an account.
