AMA President-Elect to Speak at TMA Leadership Summit
By Hannah Wisterman

Amid a full schedule of focused CME to help physicians lead in their practices and communities, the Texas Medical Association’s Leadership Summit will host American Medical Association (AMA) President-Elect Bruce Scott, MD, as he presents “Top Issues Impacting Medicine.”

Dr. Scott, an otolaryngologist in Kentucky, will headline the breakfast talk at 7:45 am Saturday, Jan. 27, opening the day’s programming. He’ll cover how AMA works to reform Medicare physician payment policies and preserve state scope-of-practice laws.

Dr. Scott also will participate in Saturday’s general session panel discussion “Generational Differences Among Leadership,” hosted by TMA’s Women Physicians Section

Other must-see CME sessions feature some of TMA’s own leaders, including:

  • “The Value of Legislative Relationship-Building” with TMA President-Elect Ray Callas, MD, and Jimmy Widmer, MD, a member of the Council on Legislation;
  • A primer on organized medicine leadership with TMA Board Trustee Jayesh Shah, MD, and Jennifer Rushton, MD, a member of the Council on Health Care Quality and the Bexar County Board of Directors; and
  • A mock House of Delegates session with TMA Speaker of the House Brad Holland, MD and Vice Speaker John Flores, MD.

Leadership Summit attendees will have a chance to network with one another before and during the event. Arrive Thursday evening to attend a line-dance lesson at the Hyatt Regency and stick around Friday evening for a networking happy hour with live music followed by the All-Conference Mixer with trivia and karaoke. Guests are welcome.

Register now to reserve your seat. Early registration closes Friday, Jan. 19, and will resume on site at the hotel on Friday, Jan. 26.

The room block for TMA's Leadership Summit at the Hyatt Regency Austin is closed, but a second room block is available at the nearby Embassy Suites by Hilton Austin Downtown South Congress. Rooms are available at a discounted rate of $230 per night until Jan. 19 or until the room block is full. Find details on the Leadership Summit page
