Three Rio Grande Valley physicians renewed Texas Medical Association (TMA) leadership positions.
TMA’s House of Delegates, the organization’s policymaking body, reelected an area physician to represent Texas doctors in the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates and renewed terms of members for TMA’s Board of Councilors, the organization’s ethical policymaking body. The TMA house took action at TexMed, the association’s annual conference and expo, held this year in Houston.
E. Linda Villarreal, MD, an Edinburg internist in practice for 33 years, was reelected to represent Texas doctors as an AMA delegate. She also was recognized for her leadership as she concluded her one-year term as TMA president.
Mario R. Anzaldua, MD, a Mission family physician in practice for 38 years, was reconfirmed as a councilor on the TMA Board of Councilors.
Sandra Esquivel, MD, a Weslaco surgeon in practice for 26 years, was reconfirmed as a vice councilor to the TMA Board of Councilors.
All three physicians are members of the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 56,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
