Forty Houston-Area Physicians Start New Terms in TMA Leadership Positions

Forty Houston-area physicians have begun new terms of service in Texas Medical Association (TMA) leadership positions.

TMA leaders elect or appoint TMA physicians and medical students to one of TMA’s 25 boards, councils, and committees. They are responsible for studying health care-related issues and making recommendations on important health care policy affecting Texas patients and their physicians.

Except where noted, all the physicians are members of the Harris County Medical Society.

Houston

Jennifer L. Bercaw-Pratt, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist in practice for 13 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Child and Adolescent Health.

Anh Q. Dang, MD, an anesthesiologist in practice for 11 years; reappointed to the TMA Committee on Membership.

Larry C. Driver, MD, a palliative-care physician in practice for 37 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Cancer.

Hilary E. Fairbrother, MD, an emergency physician in practice for eight years; appointed to the TMA Committee on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma.

Lewis E. Foxhall, MD, a family physician in practice for 42 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Cancer.

Aakash H. Gajjar, MD, a colorectal surgeon in practice for 12 years; reelected to the Council on Health Service Organizations. Dr. Gajjar is a member of the Galveston County Medical Society.

Marina C. George, MD, an internist in practice for 13 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Health Care Quality.

Clare N. Gentry, MD, an infectious disease specialist in practice for 17 years; appointed chair of the TMA Committee of Infectious Diseases.

William S. Gilmer, MD, a neurologist in practice for 33 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Council on Science and Public Health.

Angela M. Guerra, MD, a family physician in practice for nine years; reappointed to the TMA Committee on Medical Home and Primary Care.

Charleta Guillory, MD, a neonatal-perinatal physician in practice for 42 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Reproductive, Women's and Perinatal Health.

James S. Guo, MD, an anesthesiologist in practice for 25 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Council on Health Service Organizations.

Alison J. Haddock, MD, an emergency physician in practice for seven years; appointed chair of the TMA Council on Health Promotion.

Lawrence M. Hanrahan, MD, a physician in practice for 28 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Council on Medical Education.

C. Mary Healy, MD, an infectious disease pediatrician in practice for 13 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Infectious Diseases.

Stephen A. Herrmann, MD, a radiologist in practice for three years; elected to the TMA Council on Medical Education.

Robert E. Jackson, MD, an internist in practice for 37 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Medical Home and Primary Care.

Faraz Khan, MD, a radiologist in practice for 23 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Health Service Organizations.

Russell W.H. Kridel, MD, a plastic surgeon in practice for 42 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Council on Legislation.

Patrick M. Lynch, MD, a gastroenterologist in practice for 33 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Cancer.

Kenneth L. Mattox, MD, a trauma surgeon in practice for 50 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma.

Nahille I. Natour, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist in practice for 16 years; reappointed to the TMA Committee on Physician Health and Wellness.

Lonzetta L. Newman, MD, an internist in practice for 21 years; appointed to the TMA Committee on Medical Home and Primary Care.

Lois M. Ramondetta, MD, a gynecological oncologist in practice for 23 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Cancer.

Edward R. Rensimer, MD, an infectious disease specialist in practice for 41 years; appointed to the TMA Committee on Infectious Diseases.

Michael E. Speer, MD, a neonatologist-perinatologist in practice for 48 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Reproductive, Women's and Perinatal Health.

Georgia A. Thomas, MD, an internist in practice for 43 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Physician Health and Wellness.

Ronald S. Walters, MD, an oncologist in practice for 42 years; elected to the TMA Council on Practice Management Services.

Stephen E. Whitney, MD, a pediatrician in practice for 39 years; appointed to the TMA Committee on Physician Distribution and Health Care Access.

Acsa “Mary” Zavala, MD, an anesthesiologist in practice for 10 years; appointed to the TMA Committee on Patient-Physician Advocacy.

Cypress

Daniel B. Walk, MD, an emergency medicine physician in practice for two years; appointed to TMA’s Committee on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma. Dr. Walk is a member of the Travis County Medical Society. (In addition to practicing medicine in Cypress, Dr. Walk also practices in Austin.)

Galveston

Samuel Mathis, MD, a family physician in practice for three years; reelected to the TMA Council on Constitution and Bylaws.

Bethany E. Powell, MD, a radiation oncologist in practice for 20 years; reappointed to the TMA Committee on Physician Health and Wellness.

Drs. Mathis and Powell are members of the Galveston County Medical Society.

League City

Jeffrey S. Richards, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist in practice for 23 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Science and Public Health. Dr. Richards is a member of the Galveston County Medical Society.

Pearland

Mammen A. Sam, MD, a hospitalist and radiation oncologist in practice for nine years; reappointed to the TMA Committee on Cancer. Dr. Sam is a member of the Brazoria County Medical Society.

Shenandoah

Nefertiti C. duPont, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist in practice for 18 years; elected to the TMA Council on Socioeconomics. Dr. duPont is a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Spring

Louise H. Bethea, MD, an allergist in practice for 45 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Health Promotion.

Sugar Land

Majid A. Basit, MD, a cardiologist in practice for 18 years; appointed chair of the TMA Committee on Patient-Physician Advocacy.

Sonia Chauhan, MD, a pediatrician in practice for 16 years; reappointed as a consultant to the TMA Committee on Reproductive, Women's and Perinatal Health.

Troy T. Fiesinger, MD, a family physician in practice for 22 years; reelected to the TMA Council on Legislation.

Drs. Basit and Chauhan are members of the Fort Bend County Medical Society, while Dr. Fiesinger is a member of the Harris County Medical Society.
