“As a physician and a pathologist in training, I believe in advocating for my specialty and for my colleagues,” Dr. Abid said. “As the resident/fellow section representative on the TMA Board of Trustees, my aim is to highlight issues that affect my fellow residents and to be at the table where important decisions are made. I am honored to represent my community and look forward to working with the board.”

Dr. Abid has been a TMA member for two years. He is the Resident and Fellow Section representative on the board of the TMA Foundation, the organization’s philanthropic arm. He also represented TMA’s RFS in the House of Delegates.

Dr. Abid is the vice chair of the College of American Pathologists’ Residents Forum Executive Committee, the resident section of the largest organization of board-certified pathologists in the U.S. Dr. Abid also is actively involved with the Texas Society of Pathologists (TSP), where he is a member of the Membership Committee and past chair of its Digital Content Committee. At his suggestion, TSP broadened its membership to include Texas medical students. He also served on the American Medical Association Resident and Fellow Section Committee on Medical Education.

Board-certified in pathology, Dr. Abid is a member of the Galveston County Medical Society. He graduated from Services Institute of Medical Sciences in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, in 2012. Dr. Abid is a third-generation doctor, following his grandfather, an anesthesiologist, and his father, a family physician.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 55,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA's key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
