Three El Paso physicians have been selected to renew terms of service in Texas Medical Association (TMA)-affiliated leadership positions.

TMA’s House of Delegates policymaking body met virtually on Saturday and announced this year’s TMA elections and appointments. TMA elected area physicians to represent Texas doctors in the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates, the national organization’s policymaking body, and selected members of TMA’s Board of Councilors ethical policymaking body.

All the physicians are members of the El Paso County Medical Society.

Gilberto A. Handal, MD, infectious diseases specialist in practice for 51 years; reconfirmed as the District 1 councilor to the TMA Board of Councilors.

Angel M. Rios, MD, obstetrician-gynecologist in practice for 29 years; reconfirmed as the District 1 vice councilor to the TMA Board of Councilors.

Roxanne M. Tyroch, MD, internist in practice for 26 years; reelected as a delegate to the Texas Delegation to the AMA House of Delegates.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 55,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
