L. Andy Chen, MD, a Beaumont oncologist in practice for 10 years, was elected to serve on the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Council on Health Service Organizations. He will begin his three-year term this week during the TMA Fall Conference.
The council studies, makes recommendations, and takes action related to the organization of and services provided by patient-care facilities, including emergency departments; ambulatory surgery centers; hospitals; and skilled nursing, long-term-care, assisted living, hospice, home care, and other treatment facilities.
TMA member physicians and medical students are appointed or elected to one of TMA’s 25 boards, councils, and committees. They are responsible for studying health care-related issues and making recommendations on important health care policy affecting Texas patients and their physicians.
Dr. Chen is a member of the Jefferson County Medical Society.
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing nearly 53,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans.
