Round Rock Physician Elected Vice President of TMA Foundation Board

 May 4, 2017

Susan M. Pike, MD, a Round Rock board-certified plastic surgeon in practice for 14 years, was elected vice president of the Texas Medical Association Foundation (TMAF) Board of Trustees. She was elected today during TexMed, Texas Medical Association’s annual conference, in Houston.

TMAF, the philanthropic arm of TMA, raises funds to support the population health, quality of care, and science priority initiatives of the association and the family of medicine. TMAF raises funds and connects medicine, business, and community groups that carry out these programs at the local and state levels.

TMA’s Hard Hats for Little Heads, Be Wise — ImmunizeSM, Walk With a Doc Texas (WWAD), Minority Scholarship Program, and Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching are several of the better-known programs TMAF supports. The foundation also funds local health improvement initiatives across the state through its community grants.

The TMAF board comprises TMA physician members, TMA Alliance members (TMA physicians and spouses who volunteer for TMA initiatives such as the outreach programs to improve health), and community leaders. Each member serves a three-year term and may be reappointed to serve two additional terms.

Dr. Pike has been a TMA member for 13 years and a member of the TMAF Board since 2012. She is a member of TMA’s Board of Councilors; a consultant to TMA’s Council on Health Promotion; and a district vice chair for TEXPAC, TMA’s political action committee. She is an avid WWAD supporter, having led the first TMA walk in Texas. In addition, Dr. Pike is a graduate of the inaugural class of TMA’s Leadership College for young physicians. She also is a past president of the Williamson County Medical Society, of which she is a member.

Dr. Pike is director of the Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Baylor Scott and White Healthcare in Round Rock, as well as director of the Cosmetic Surgery Center. She also is an assistant professor at Texas A&M Health Science Center at Round Rock.

Dr. Pike earned her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she served as chief resident in plastic surgery. Dr. Pike also completed a fellowship at Plastic Surgery Associates in Miami.

TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 50,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 110 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans. TMA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the association and raises funds to support the population health, science and quality-of-care priority initiatives of TMA and the family of medicine.

Be Wise — Immunize is a service mark of the Texas Medical Association.
