110.004Cost Containment and Product Liability: The Texas Medical Association voted to petition the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, and other medical and consumer organizations to encourage the legislative and executive branches of the federal government to enact legislation to achieve legal protection for health care providers who reuse equipment after currently accepted resterilization procedures, “single use” designations notwithstanding (this protection must include the manufacturers of such equipment) and incentives for manufacturers to produce durable medical supplies and instruments. TMA also supports inclusion of these recommendations in the Administration’s proposal to study means of decreasing costs and lessening the burden of liability currently borne by the health care industry (Res. 28F, p 183, I-93; reaffirmed CL Rep. 2-A-03; deleted CHCQ Rep. 2-A-16).
