80.001 Managed Care Plan Economic Credentialing

Managed Care Plan Economic Credentialing: The Texas Medical Association supports (1) eliminating the federal ERISA preemption of state law which would otherwise regulate health benefit plans; (2) providing meaningful antitrust relief to allow a fair playing field for physician organizations to negotiate with third party payers and offer competitive health care plans; (3) opening up selection and deselection criteria for public view; (4) assuring that due process for credentialing is available, based on quality, and is conducted in accordance with fair market practices; and (5) mandating practicing physician involvement (through a medical staff self-governing structure) in all quality outcomes and economic credentialing functions (Supplemental Board of Trustees, p 49, A-94; amended CSE Rep. 3-A-04; reaffirmed CSE Rep. 2-A-14).
