New Licensing Category for Assistant Physicians: The Texas Medical Association opposes the creation of special licensing pathways for physicians who have not completed a year of residency training. Further, TMA recognizes primary care as encompassing specialties that require the completion of a full residency training process in the relevant specialties. TMA opposes lower standards of licensing for physicians and other health professions in medically underserved areas (CM-PDHCA Rep. 2-A-15).
