25.001Alcohol-Related Vehicle Deaths and Injuries: The Texas Medical Association supports and voted to work for introduction of legislation directed to reduction of alcohol-related vehicle deaths and injuries, that these efforts be directed at meeting eligibility requirements for federal grant programs by lowering the legal limit for intoxication to a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent; prompt loss (within 30 days) of driver’s license for conviction of driving while intoxicated; sobriety check points; enforcement of laws making 21 the legal drinking age and providing a distinctive driver’s license for those under the age of 21; and financing drunk driving law prevention programs with a portion of traffic fines and penalties from drunken driving offenses (Res. 28OO, p 214, A-92; deleted CM-EMS Rep. 1-A-03).
