      Information and Resources

Regional Extension Centers (RECs) in Texas have been supporting physicians since 2009 with individualized on-site services, technical assistance, and ongoing support to select, implement or upgrade Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and guidance to meaningful use. Primary care physicians qualify for subsidized consulting (valued at $5,000) that significantly lowers the annual price of REC services.  Please contact the REC covering your service area for details on pricing and service offerings.
  • Texas REC Educational Series

    • Join the REC educational webinar series as they discuss the hot topics of Electronic Health Records with subject matter experts. Every month, a new topic will be discussed over lunch. All webinars are open to the public, however, only Texas REC members can view archived webinars.

  • Your REC can help you decide:

    • Is my practice ready for an EHR?
    • Which EHR should I choose?
    • What type of training will my staff need?
    • How do I install an EHR with minimal disruption to my practice?
    • How do I make meaningful use of an EHR so it helps my patients and earns me a Medicare or Medicaid incentive bonus?
    • How can I qualify for incentives with my existing EHR?
  • Who is eligible for REC services?

    • The following professionals are eligible.

      • Primary care physicians (Family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB-GYN)
      • Specialists that can attest to providing primary care services.
      • Community and Rural Health Centers primarily serving uninsured, underinsured and medically underserved
      • Specialists are eligible for services, but not at the subsidized rate.  Each REC can providing pricing information.

  • What incentives are available?

    • Earn incentives from the Medicare or Medicaid program.

For physicians who qualify, reaching meaningful use can mean up to $63,750 in incentives from Medicaid or $44,000 from Medicare through the 2009 ARRA Stimulus. Medicare incentives are highest for early adopters who commit to EHRs before October 2012, for more information on available EHR incentives, take a detailed look at the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Comparison and Timelines.

  • Why a Texas REC?

    • Regional extension centers provide assistance with selecting and implementing EHR systems, and achieving meaningful use. Services from your REC include:

      • Initial Practice Assessment
      • Vendor Evaluation/Selection
      • Practice Workflow Analysis and Process Redesign
      • Implementation Project Review
      • Post-Implementation Review
      • Meaningful Use Gap Analysis
  • Why now?

    • The Texas RECs have enrollment targets.

Once the RECs reach their enrollment targets, they can no longer provide consulting at the subsidized rate, and all physicians (even primary care) will have to pay the full rate.  Do not delay as most of the RECs are very close to meeting their enrollment target.
