As a fourth year student at the UT-Houston Medical School, I have experienced so much during my time in Houston. My interests in public health, cultural awareness, education and community service have led me to the path of family medicine. Along the way, my involvement in TMA has grown and developed. It is my hope that this year as chair, I will be able to share my passion and excitement for TMA and student involvement in organized medicine. I feel privileged to be selected to work with a great group of students in the 2009-10 TMA Executive Council. I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish this year!

As a future clinician-scientist, I will have the unique opportunity to care for my patients from the hospital bedside as well as from the research laboratory.  Serving within the TMA MSS will afford me an understanding of policy making and relevant issues in science and medicine that will allow me to better serve my future patients and bring about change in a positive way to improve health care access and delivery and advance novel treatments of disease.

Mason works with Elizabeth, the other AMA Delegate Co-Leader, to ensure that representatives from all of the Texas medical schools are prepared to speak on the resolutions debated at the AMA-MSS interim and annual conferences. Mason is also responsible for coordinating the Texas and Region 3 delegates if they can agree to vote as a state or region, thus facilitating the passage of TMA legislative priorities through the AMA-MSS.

I am a MS4 at UT-Houston applying to Ob/Gyn.  I grew up in Houston, TX and attended Brigham Young University where I majored in History and Microbiology.  I took 2 years off to serve a church mission to the Vietnamese in Orange County, CA, and also taught English in Vietnam before medical school.  I have served as both Chapter Chair and Region Chair for the AMA, member of the TEXPAC Candidate Evaluation Committee and TMA Delegate Co-leader before currently serving as the Student Representative to the Board of Trustees.  Outside of debating health care policy and participating in the TMA and AMA, I enjoy playing basketball and tennis, watching any other sport that exists, reading a good book, cooking, blogging, and spending time with my family.  I'm married with a 2 year old son and a girl on the way.  I'm enjoying being the link for students to the Board of Trustees and am always willing to listen to any questions, concerns, or comments you might have about organized medicine.  Don't hesitate to ask!
