Summary
The conference will include the following discussions: why young people are especially vulnerable to the effects of drugs on the brain, impact of substance use disorders on the family, why a person begins to harm himself or herself, and challenges faced by women presenting for substance use disorders. Expert faculty members will teach attendees how to apply methods for coping with grief and loss, their ethical and professional responsibilities to provide holistic health care, and how to apply mechanisms that promote forgiveness and resilience and improve patient care.

Objectives
Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the role of the TMA Committee on Physician Health and Rehabilitation.
2. Address the types of drugs young people use and the emotional and financial consequences of drug use.
3. Determine the impact of substance use disorders in the family.
4. Explain the etiology of self-injury and the ethical responsibility of others to help those individuals improve their self-esteem and lead healthier, productive lives.
5. Identify substance use disorders in women and examine methods to address the needs of this patient population.
6. Apply methods for coping with grief and loss, accentuated by ethical and professional responsibilities, to provide holistic health care.
7. Demonstrate ethical and professional responsibility by applying mechanisms that promote forgiveness and resilience and improve patient care.
Who Should Attend
The program is designed for physicians of all specialties; members and consultants of state and county medical society Physician Health and Rehabilitation (PHR) committees; district coordinators; regional education team members; hospital representatives, including chiefs of staff, medical staff coordinators, administrators, and members of hospital-based peer assistance committees; and others interested in learning more about how to cope with losses in medicine and self-care measures and resilience that will improve patient outcomes.

Registration
The conference registration fee is $180 per person before Aug. 27. The fee for registrations received after Aug. 27 and on site is $230. The fee includes the welcome reception, breaks, and conference syllabus.
