Lee Ann Pearse, MD, was elected to the TMA Board of Trustees in May 2024.
“I am humbled and honored over being elected and being given the opportunity to serve my patients and my colleagues to the best of my ability,” she said. Dr. Pearse seeks to serve TMA’s vision of improving the health of all Texans, “at a critical time when our health care system is at a turning point.” To do so, she says, TMA must continue to advocate for physician-led access to care for patients across Texas.
“If we are willing to be creative in our solutions, as well as advocate for our patients at the Capitol in Austin, we can aspire to expanding access to care in meaningful ways for our families in the urban centers and rural communities alike,” Dr. Pearce said.
Dr. Pearse has been active in organized medicine her entire career. She was a member of TMA’s Council on Socioeconomics and Council on Legislation, and a district chair and Candidate Evaluation Committee member of TEXPAC, TMA’s Political Action Committee. She also supports the TMA Foundation as a past trustee and member of the Leadership Society.
Dr. Pearse also served as president and board chair of the Dallas County Medical Society.
A pediatric cardiologist, she has diverse clinical experience serving patients in Dallas and the rural, underserved town of Paris, Texas. She is medical director for Pediatrix Cardiology of Dallas after having spent many years in private practice.
Medicine runs in Dr. Pearse’s family. Her mother was a nurse, and her father was a doctor in rural Yuma, Colo., a town of 3,400 people. “They took care of everybody,” she said. “Patients paid with corn or chickens or whatever they could, but they had access to care.” Those experiences shaped how Dr. Pearse serves her patients and her views in supporting a Texas solution for expanding access to coverage and care for uninsured populations.
