Q. In the group setting, can one physician within the group send a patient to another physician in the same group (same tax identification number) for the sole purpose of a second opinion? Can we bill insurance?
A. Yes. Confirmatory consultations may occur within the same group practice, as long as all components of the consultation code are met and fully documented.
