The Texas Medical Association (TMA) has been named a “Top Workplace” for 2011 by the Austin American-Statesman. While the newspaper grants the honor, TMA employees provided the feedback. The state physicians’ professional society scored high in surveys completed by its own employees (of 184 medical society staff, 165 replied).
“We’re very pleased about this news. A happy workforce means they’re going to be productive, they’re going to stay with TMA, and they’re going to serve the physicians who in turn serve patients,” says Lou Goodman, PhD, TMA executive vice president and chief executive officer.
The newspaper says it surveyed 15,731 workers from 143 Austin-area employers for its Top Workplaces of Greater Austin project. TMA ranked eighth out of 35 top midsize employers recognized.
In a survey response, one TMA employee recommends working at the association for the “professional staff, great benefits and the wonderful partnerships with our physician members.”
TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation, representing more than 45,000 physician and medical student members. It is located in Austin and has 120 component county medical societies around the state. TMA’s key objective since 1853 is to improve the health of all Texans. TMA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the association and raises funds to support the public health and science priority initiatives of TMA and the family of medicine.
