Starting Jan. 1, families of children ineligible for Supplemental Security Income for reasons other than disability can buy in to the state Medicaid Program. The legislature ordered the Medicaid Buy-In for Children (MBIC) program in 2009 to provide acute care Medicaid coverage for children aged 18 years and younger with disabilities.
To be eligible, they must:
- Be 18 years or younger;
- Have a family income no greater than 300 percent of the federal poverty level before allowable deductions;
- Meet citizenship, immigration, and residency requirements;
- Be unmarried; and
- Not reside in a public institution.
TMA supported creation of the program.
