QPP: Last day to register or cancel registration for the CMS Web Interface reporting option for the 2018 Quality Payment Program
Due to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented a new Quality Payment Program (QPP) that provides two participation options: the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and advanced alternative payment models (APMs). QPP is an incentive program that requires submission of data to CMS annually. Data submitted for each performance year affects Medicare payment two years later. Groups with 25 or more eligible clinicians who want to submit data using the CMS Web Interface for the 2018 MIPS quality performance category must register with CMS by July 2, 2018. If your group registered for the CMS Web Interface in 2017, CMS automatically registered your group again in 2018, but your group will still need to confirm its registration. If your group would like to use a different reporting mechanism, CMS recommends you cancel this registration by July 2, 2018. However, groups that are registered for the CMS Web Interface after this date are still able to submit data on quality measures through other submission mechanisms if they choose. NOTE: Although Medicare Shared Savings Program ACOs and Next Generation ACOs report data using the CMS Web Interface, registration is not required for participants in these APMs.

To find out if you are required to submit data to MIPS or if you are exempt this year, access the online lookup tool on the QPP website at https://qpp.cms.gov/participation-lookup and check your group’s status by signing into the QPP portal at https://qpp.cms.gov/login. If you are not exempt and do not participate in MIPS or an APM in 2018, you will receive an automatic 5-percent pay cut on a per-claim basis to your Medicare Part B payments in 2020.
