    Vaccines and vaccine education. Free bicycle helmets. Free books for Texas children to improve health literacy. Physician health and wellness tools. These are just a few of the ways your support — as a donor or program volunteer — bring vital programs to Texas communities. If you’re not yet a donor or volunteer, we invite you to join us in amplifying the voices of physicians and friends of medicine as we create healthier Texas communities.

  • 33rd Annual Gala a Sold-Out Success

    Beach Party

    TMAF’s gala on April 17 brought together 475 physicians, alliance members, supporters, and friends for a night of fabulous food, fun and fellowship to raise funds for advancing TMA’s initiatives. Held at the Omni Corpus Christi in conjunction with TexMed, guests enjoyed silent and live auctions, dancing, and a limbo competition. A new sponsorship record was set, thanks to H-E-B and CHRISTUS Health, 15 Corpus Christi-based sponsors, and numerous individuals, families, and organizations. TMAF thanks its incredible co-chairs, Dr. Jake and Mrs. Sunshine Moore, Drs. Jerry and Keely Hunsaker, and Drs. Mary Dale Peterson and Rafael Coutin, all of Corpus Christi. 

  • McGovern Challenge: Help Break a Gala Record

     

    If you were unable to attend this year's gala, you still can support the event with a gift to the McGovern Challenge.  We’re only $30,839 away from an all-time gala record and your donation can help bridge the gap.

  • TMAF Recognizes Efforts of Nonprofits to Help Vulnerable Populations

    The Foundation has named the 2026 recipients of its John P. McGovern Champion of Health award: the Free World Bound program of Dallas and Amy’s House of Temple. TMAF announced the awards during the annual gala during TexMed. The awards recognize the honorees’ ongoing efforts to address public health challenges faced by Texans. Learn More.

  • Physician/Astronaut Visits TMAF Board

    Leadership in Medicine

    Bernard Harris, MD, Houston, kicked off the TMAF annual board meeting on April 16 to share highlights of his opening session presentation at TexMed in Corpus Christi, “An Astronaut's Perspective: Space Medicine and Beyond,” which was sponsored by the Foundation’s Louis J. Goodman Lectureship on Leadership in Medicine.

    Austin King, MD, Abilene, inspired the creation of this fund in 2019 with an inaugural gift of $25,000, which enabled TMAF to raise $47,000 more. Earlier this year, Dr. King, a past TMA president, made a second significant donation to this fund. The fund is in memory of Lou Goodman who was TMA’s CEO for 22 years.

    “The fund amplifies the critical importance of physician leadership by supporting outstanding speakers at TexMed who themselves embody this rare yet invaluable ingredient that moves organizations forward and helps them achieve their mission at the highest levels,” said Clifford Moy, MD, TMAF president.

    Dr. Harris has been instrumental in advancing math and science education for more than 25 years through his philanthropy and founding of The Harris Institute and Foundation. His connection to science is far-reaching: he was at NASA for 10 years where he conducted musculoskeletal physiology and clinical investigations of space adaptation. A veteran astronaut for more than 30 years, he has logged more than 438 hours and traveled more than 7.2 million miles in space. His most recent book is “Embracing Infinite Possibilities: Letting go of Fear to Find your Higher Potential.”

  • Visit the Donor and Leader Recognition Display

    New and upgraded Major Donors as well as Corporate Leadership Circle (CLC) donors are recognized on the Digital Donor/Leader Display in the lobby of the TMA building which will be updated this summer. When you are in Austin, please stop by so we can show you this unique display. It also features leaders from other parts of the family of medicine: TMA, TMA Alliance, TMA Insurance Trust, and Texas Medical Liability Trust.  We’re deeply grateful to all TMAF Major Donors and CLC members for their investment in changing lives with better health.

  • 2025 Annual Report Preview


    • Raised an estimated $1,021,927 in 2025, exceeding the fundraising goal by 24%.
    • Granted $483,973 to 38 programs, including 14 medical student scholarships.
    • Recognized 15 individuals who became new or upgraded Major Donors on the TMA building Digital Donor/Leader Display and at TMA conferences. They join our existing 307 TMAF Major Donors.

    Look for the new 2025 TMAF annual report that will be emailed and posted on the TMAF website in June.

     

  • Connection at the Community Level

    PH&W

    For nearly 30 years, TMA and TMA Alliance members have been the catalyst for improving health with TMA Foundation Medical Community Grants, for programs like the Travis Physician Wellness Program.

    Applications for these grants opened May 1. Eligible applicants are TMA county medical societies and alliance and medical student chapters. Application deadlines are July 31 and Nov. 15. Learn more. 

    "With the support of the TMA Foundation, over 680 physicians and their loved ones have accessed more than 3,500 counseling visits through the Physician Wellness Program. It’s a powerful example of the 'family of medicine' in action — caring for our physicians so they can better care for Texans."
