Donors Create First Trust Fund for Minority Scholarships at TMA Foundation

Thanks to an unprecedented $3.2M donation from Dr. Roberto J. and Agniela (Annie) M. Bayardo to the TMA Foundation, hundreds of aspiring physicians will receive a TMA scholarship and be named a “Bayardo Scholar.” Their gift establishes a trust fund benefiting medical student recipients of TMA’s Diversity in Medicine Scholarship.

“I selected TMA Foundation because most of my life I've lived in Texas and made our fortune here in Texas. I selected to help the minority because I am one of them and will make us, my wife and me, very happy to help them,” said Dr. Bayardo.

Annually TMA’s Diversity in Medicine Scholarship Program identifies a qualified student at each Texas medical school to receive the one-time scholarship. The Bayardo’s gift is making a big enhancement to the program: for the first time since the program was established in 1998, TMA was able to increase the scholarship from $5,000 to $10,000 each. Read about the second big difference they are making in the February 2016 issue of Texas Medicine. You may donate to TMAF to support this and others through our secure donation page.
