Why do you think your section is an important part of TMA?
The LGBTQ Health Section serves many functions. It serves as a resource to the TMA Board of Trustees and TMA Councils/Committees on matters that are important to LGBTQ patients and physicians. It also serves as a place for LGBTQ members and allies to gather to discuss issues important to this population, as well as gather in a social space.
What benefits have you derived from your membership in the section?
I have been able to make several new friends who are advocates to this cause. In addition, I have seen firsthand how the expertise of this section has been able to be influential in crafting TMA policy.
What do you like most about your specialty?
I love adolescent medicine because it allows me to be an advocate for my patients at a crucial time in their development. I can be a voice to their parents during difficult conversations. I help them as they develop into their own person during a challenging time in life.
What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
I love to spend time with my husband exploring craft breweries and wineries in Texas.
