Be on the lookout for Medicare claims you’ve filed since Oct. 1 in which procedure codes failed to process, causing a rejected claim. You will need to refile these claims.

In its Part B Claims Issues Log, Medicare payer Novitas Solutions has posted notice of a systems error that has “caused scenarios where procedure codes were being inadvertently removed from submitted claims during processing,” the Novitas notice says. “As a result of this error if you experienced a claim rejection, please resubmit your claim.”

Novitas says the error was in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ quarterly claims-processing software update for Medicare Jurisdiction H, which includes Texas. The update was released Oct. 1

TMA’s Payment Advocacy staff will monitor this processing error as Novitas works to correct it.

If you have any questions about billing and coding, or payer policies, contact TMA’s payment specialists at paymentadvocacy[at]texmed[dot]org, or call the TMA Knowledge Center at (800) 880-7955.
