CME at TexMed: Emerging Specialty Trends

Next month, among many other CME offerings, you can learn about emerging specialty trends – virtually or in-person – at TexMed 2022, the Texas Medical Association’s largest annual conference, scheduled for April 29-30 in Houston.

TexMed features two keynote presentations and more than 50 hours of CME. All conference sessions are listed in the 2022 CME Schedule and segmented into six key tracks, including leadership, population health, and emerging specialty trends.

Multimodal Opioid-Sparing Strategies for Acute Pain Management
Speaker: Girish Joshi, MD, professor of anesthesiology and pain management at UT Southwestern Medical Center
Summary: This presentation will discuss the current evidence-based best practices for perioperative pain management and emphasize a multidisciplinary approach. Learn about barriers to optimal postoperative pain management, the importance of patient education, current controversies surrounding the therapeutic concepts of multimodal analgesia, and optimal multimodal analgesia techniques.

How to Use Biologics in Allergic Diseases
Speaker: Carla M. Davis, MD, chief of the section of immunology, allergy and retrovirology at Texas Children’s Hospital
Summary: Biologic therapies like omalizumab, dupilumab, benralizumab, and mepolizumab are effective tools to fight allergic responses. They are being approved for more diseases and can be powerful in the treatment of severe disease. Learn about the current evidence for biologics used in asthma treatment, how to distinguish between the function of biologics in atopic dermatitis, and how to identify adverse events that may occur during biologic therapy.
