Funding Opportunity: Boost Health Equity
By Joey Berlin

Using $2 million it received from a federal government award, the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM) is offering a funding opportunity for physician practices looking to help minority groups disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

The college is partnering with the American Medical Association’s Center for Health Equity to create care coordination pilot programs that “enhance the capacity of physician-led practices to implement COVID-19 prevention, vaccination, testing, and treatment strategies that improve the health of populations that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, racial injustice, and other forms of oppression,” ACPM said in a release.

As part of the project, ACPM is planning to distribute the $2 million among 10 to 15 physician-led practices to boost equity and community health particularly among those “at increased risk due to social and economic circumstances,” including Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, as well as LGBTQ patients, people with disabilities, and other minority groups. The goal is to document best practices in care coordination for these communities.

Practices have until Friday, Oct. 1, at 10:59 pm CT to apply for funding through the ACPM website, which includes instructions, a link to a recording and slides from a recent webinar, and administrative contacts at ACPM and AMA who can field questions.

ACPM’s award came from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The project will begin on Nov. 1 and end on July 31, 2022.
